ganesh - ramnagar colony near vinayaka temple Ram Nagar Colony Chittoor Andhra Pradesh

In the area mentioned above I lived there for 25 yrs of life time.. in my childhood there are lot of sparrows, but now in the recent years (in the past 5-7 yrs) especially in the last 2 yrs.. seeing sparrows were drastically decreased. i think the reason being the cell phone towers which came up in every street. and because of their radiations they started disappearing

sarabjit singh - Gopinath bazar , delhi cantt Delhi Cantonment New Delhi Delhi

i happen to live in one of the most green areas of New Delhi with flora and fauna in abundance .Cantonment is the home for peacocks, pigeons, crows ,dove, partridge, barbet, kingfisher at times, owl , green pigeon , woodpecker , indian grey hornbill , myna ,eagle but our favourite Sparrow is gone ...just vanished .
I still remember the good old days when Sparrows use to nest in my house and there use to be chirping all day long and i use to feed them .
The probable reasons i can think of their extinction in my area is :
1) no available space for them to nest in the houses as before after renovation of houses .In our quest to build new modern houses we all forgot the Sparrows .
2) mobile antenna's
3) scarcity and availability of food for them ...we have no time for them
i would love to go any far to have them back in my locality once again

Santha Lakshmi KM - Sahtuvachari Phase II - Residential Area Sathuvacheri Vellore Tamil Nadu

The ordinary small sized sparrows (the palm-sized) are observed rarely in our area. Our neighbourhood has a number of trees in almost all houses though we have only flower plants in our house. The bigger-sized sparrows (we call them wild sparrows (about 15-20 cm in size) frequent our house very often. Actually we get a wake up call with their chirping on many days. They roam on the flower plants and papaya, mango trees in the next house. Sometimes, they came and have rice which was placed for the crow. The crows, squirrels and these big sparrows compete for the rice sometimes. And we keep water in one mug during day-time (when we leave for office) so that the birds can have water.

Akansha Maurya - residential area Gorakhpur Uttar Pradesh

in the lower story of the building there was a nest on the ventilator. I was very small at that time to observe the details and think about it. But now when none can be seen my eyes craves to see those small 'chulbuli' birds.

Suma SD - Ejipura Ejipura Bangalore Karnataka

Hi Team,
I just read the article in todays Times of India Edition dated 3rd April 2012.I love birds especially the sparrows. I live in Ejipura and everyday when I pass by the bus stand towards Rama temple. I see a lot of sparrows in front of shops. I always tried attracting them to my building my placing water on the terrace. However in the process, pigeons are seen more. I would love to see the sparrows in my neighbourhood the way I had seen during my childhood days. Kinldy give me details about how I can help save the sparrow numbers. I together with my friends can atleast do something about this, but only with guidance and help. It would be great if I would get a response on your initiatve to save the sparrows. I have always been trying to get details how to save the sparrows, but I have no knowledege about it.

Good Day,

Regards,
Suma SD
