Vineeth Bharadwaj P - Residential Colony Hassan Karnataka

Sparrows have lived here since ages. Our house was built 35 years ago and even from that time sparrows are here. One more thing is there are 2 mobile towers roughly 100mts from our home but still we can see them regularly. But their numbers has been decreasing rapidly. As I remember there were nearly 50-100 sparrows. Now its just 5-10 of them. They are used to eating biscuits than any other grains here. They will be feeding of biscuits put for dogs. We also have made a small water pool where they can bathe and drink water.

The Sparrows i am reporting about were spotted near my apartment more than a year ago. before that for a few years we rarely saw sparrows, as if they were no longer there.
And there were two, i suspesct they occupied the unused pipe on the side of my neighbours house.
soon there was a lot of chirping n fighting the pigeons. Soon me and my mom left them rice grains near our plant pots.
We saw the addition of one then two more sparrows(i believe the new two were kids, since their coat was bit different.), if we miss putting the grain even by few minutes there was loads of screeching until we had to rush to fill the plate.

We used to stay in a chawl in Jogeshwari. We had a small play ground with little bit of jungle in front of our house. Our houses were made up cement concrete wall and wood log ceilings. There were plenty of gaps for sparrows to make their nests. When the wood logs were replaced by steel angles for whole of our chawl, they had no place to nest. Still i was able to see few of them quite frequent, but the numbers keep on dwindling and at one point of time i use to rarely See any sparrows. I still remember, when my mom or other womens in my chawl use to remove small pebles from rice, they use just come there and wait for my mom to throw some rice grains for them to feed. In the evening the trees sarroundig our house use buzz with squeky noise whole evening. Thats long vanished. I have seen such changes even at my native place in Gujarat. Its very very sad but true. If corrective action is not taken soon we will soon have to declare them as endangered birds.

Chogyal Moktan - Baghajatin Colony Baghajatin Colony, Pradhan Nagar, Siliguri Siliguri West Bengal

Actually i am doing BCA from Sikkim Manipal University, DE (Distance Education). So i do a kind of part time job at my Institution. There is a nest built by Sparrows in front of my office and recently about 2-3weeks (approx) earlier they have given birth to young chicks as well. Right now also they are ch ripping outside. I tried to take pics of those sparrows but they fly away when i try. I have observed that the chicks remain inside the nest. Sometimes when its time to close the office one of the sparrow comes inside and sits on top of the office fan, i never tried to chase it. I ensure that the door remains opened so that it flies again to its nest, and it does so.
