It was strange to find this survey. Some days back, i was really wondering what happened to all the sparrow population in the locality and today i saw this article in timesofindia about the survey. I remember the chirping noise which used to wake me up in the morning. They all are gone now. Hardly i observe any sparrow, forget about the nest. And its more of a sudden, drastic drop i observed. Cant be isolated to my place, as this survey itself tells me that its a world wide event.

FROM THE YEAR 2000 TILL 2007 OR 2008 WAS A TIME WHEN SPARROWS FLOODED MY BALCONY MY TERRACE AND BUILT A NEST EVERY SEASON AND NOW IS A TIME WHEN I SPOT ONLY A PAIR OR MAX. 5 SPARROWS A DAY, NOW ARE THE TIMES WHEN MY HOUSE IS SURROUNDED BY SQUIRRELS. I NEVER NOTICED THAT SPARROWS HAVE DECREASED IN MY LOCALITY AND NEVER SEEM TO HAVE BOTHERED UNTIL TODAY WHEN I READ THIS ARTICLE. IF THERE'S ANY DANGER TO THESE SPARROWS THEN I BELIEVE MY WHOLE LOCALITY IS READY TO HELP AND IF THERE'S NOT THEN WE ARE HAPPY WITH THE SQUIRRELS.

I have reported sighting of sparrows in 90's. After around 2000 I cannot spot a single sparrow in this area. I am still living here and it is surprising to see sparrows have disappeared....

I miss seeing sparrows everyday. I used to love feeding them. Now days i hardly get to see them. Its become a rare sight.

the area in which i live in has a fair number of trees and parks a lots of birds can be seen but we see sparrows very often. usually i see 5 to 10 sparrows every day on our terrace.
