Whole of Daily Market Road near Railway Station Daily Market Rourkela Odisha
This is one of the talked about thing in Rourkela where in Thousands of House Sparrows used to be seen lining on the wires on the Main Market Road. Invariably they come in and sit in the evening. Its a Ornitholosgists delight, I can say. I have never seen such a sight and conglomeration of thousands of House Sparrows anywhere in India. I invite BNHS to come over to Rourkela and record this phenomenon. They dont nest in the Market Buildings, but fly down from the near by Durgapur Hill ( to be confirmed). I can gurantee sighting of around 7000- 8000 sparrows within a hour. An absoulte splendid sight.

Our houses was basically of old style and the roof was of clay tiles so they used to get ample place to build their nest, i used to see them every day and they were very close to us that sometime we used to have lunch from the same plate, but in several years due to change in infrastructure of the houses they hardly get any places to build nest and now they are totally vanished, i hardly see 1 sparrow in a month

I always used to pour Bajra outside my home to feed them. And them sometimes small balls of wheat batter. Loved it when they would chirp and hop and play around and feed on the food.
I hope the reason for their disappearance is found soon. Really do miss them.
Oh, btw, have you noticed their presence @ Bangalore International Airport? Of all the places!!! They zoom past all the baggage! :)

ACTUALLY ITS A WHOLESALE VEG SHOP IN THE MAIN MARKET. THE SPARROWS ARE MANY AND COME TO FEED ON THE CAULIFLOWER WHICH MAY HAVE SUM INSECTS ON THEM. SURPRISED TO SEE QUITE A NUMBER AND WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST IF SOMEONE CAN MAKE PROVISION FOR NESTS. THEY NORMALLY GET TANGLED IN THE CEILING FAN WHEN THEY TRY TO FLY OUT IN A HURRY.
