Ramya Sriram - Bhaikakanagar Thaltej Ahmedabad Gujarat

I used to visit my cousin's place in Bhaikakanagar, Thaltej, Ahmedabad almost every summer from 93-2000. Sparrows were found in abundance in their colony. Some sparrows built their nests in the balcony of the house and some would even start building their nests inside the house. They were usually in groups of 4-5 and seemed to have good camaraderie with mynahs, which were in abundance too. Every time one spotted a bird someone would shout - kuruvi, kuruvi! (tamil for 'sparrow') and we would put out grain and little treats for the visitors. It was especially delightful for me as I lived in Hyderabad, a city where I had hardly ever seen sparrows, at least in the main city.

Then I started feeding them regular, I get uncooked Bajra & Rice for them and there is a fixed place at my house where the sparrows come and eat & feel happy. They drink and also have bath and enjoy in water. Now they have build nests all across my house and they enjoy the place very much.
It feels really great to have these sparrows around me.

Arvind Joseph - Jeevanahalli, ITC colony Maruthi Sevanagar Bangalore Karnataka

The sparrows were nesting in a residential complex. When a cleaning activity happened recently, the nests were removed. The nests are not present in the same complex at the moment but the sparrows still come for feeding. They must have found a new place to nest.

Nigil Natesan - Pattalam Road market Amaravathy Kochi Kerala

It was lovely to hear them both early in the morning and late in the evening, every day. Nowadays, they are heard/seen once in a blue moon.
