when i came here to live in 1997, there were plenty of sparrows all around... even in my home... but suddenly, some 2-3 years ago, me and my parents observed that the sparrows are not seen.. we made the observations for many days.. we even tried to find out where these sparrows are.. but we realised that, not only in our area, but also in nearby areas the sparrows are missing.. then we thought it's not a normal thing.. there is really something wrong happening..
the first thought that came into mind was the mobile towers & signals coming through them

Zaka Imam - Basera Vihar Kalyanpur (West) Lucknow Uttar Pradesh

When I shifted to my newly purchased building at Basera Vihar, Kalyanpur, Lucknow, which was constructed some ten years back and was lying abandoned except that some caretakers lived there, I found a large number of sparrows around. There were many nests also in my house. Sadly, during repairs, plastering and other construction work some birds might have lost their nests.
Birds kept visiting the house as their own native homng place and fighting for nestings. They will fight their images on window panes for hours together.
Nearby my home, in lantana bushes, where there are some acacia trees, there still abound large flocks of sparrows. They breed there in large numbers. At one time I even wanted to use that plot as breeding ground and for conservation of Sparrows.

Zaka Imam

Ravneet Kaur - residential Sector 44 Chandigarh

The number of sparrows have decreased drastically. As my childhood memories (1993)of sector 24 Chandigarh. i remember observing their nesting and feeding behaviour during my summer vacations and as a university student when we visited pu campus to study birds of pu, as part of our practical work. I was astonished and sad to know from my professor that we do not have sparrows in pu campus (1999) we were able to located different birds like hornbills, treepies, caucals, wagtails, babblers, peacocks besides crows and pegions.
