Okhla Vegetable wholsale mandi New Friends Colony, Friends Colony New Delhi Delhi
I visited the Okhla Vegetable Market in South East Delhi in January this year. It was early morning, the market was busy ,and the place was abuzz with sparrows !
The Mandi is in a large open shed with old dilapidated ceiling light fittings.The fittings had nests in them and the sparrows were flying around, hopping down from their perches to pick food from the piles of vegetable lying around.It was the beginning of the year and my day was made by the sight of so many sparrows chirping around happily , safe in their surroundings with a plentiful food supply and ample nesting places.
I do hope the authorities don't decide to renovate and modernise the place.

SAriska Palace Hotel Daudpur Alwar Rajasthan
The Sariska Palace Hotel is located in the middle of a forest near the famous tiger sanctuary.
The hotel serves breakfast in the palace lawns and a number of birds, mainly mynas, crows and sparrows were seen in good numbers during a visit in March 2010.
The birds stay near the tables where guests eat, waiting for crumbs to fall or hop on to the tables the moment the guests get up.
I started throwing crumbs on the lawn around the table and all the birds including sparrows flocked around to feed. It was a fun thing to do and watch the birds as they grew bolder and came quite near to feed.

Malviya Nagar Shivalik New Delhi Delhi
I was at the cremation ground in Malviya Nagar waiting for the cremation to begin. It is a quiet peaceful place with a lot of trees and greenery.
There were sparrows hopping about and flying in and around the place. It was a pleasure to see that sparrows are still thriving in a few places in Delhi when they used to be so common till a few years ago.

I was at the cremation ground in Malviya Nagar waiting for the cremation to begin. It is a quiet peaceful place with a lot of trees and greenery.

Shopping area Connaught Place New Delhi Delhi
I visited the B Block of Connaught Place a few months ago and saw a small flock of sparrows in the dried up flower bed in the parking lot.
The sparrows were feeding on grian put their for them and would fly up to a nearby small tree every now and then. It was like a miracle to see this little flock of sparrows among all the noise, pollution of the parking lot with hundreds of cars and the busy shopping area around them. It would have been a normal sight a few years ago but at this time it was an amazing sight when sparrows are hardly ever seen.
