Observation;
1. 23 fEB 2007 ; Total 168 sparrows counted in evening inlocality. Mating observed, 8 mountings, 4 failures.
2. 21 Feb 2007 ; A shikra arrived and settle on roof top,
All birds got alerted and kept watch for more than 3/4 minutes.
Thereafter shikra left, birds got normal.

i keep my balcon door open ajaar in the day time, that they can freely move in & out my drawing room(djacent to the door). occassionally they form nests and then my desolate house gets enlivened with their chirping and fluttering. yes, my house gets dirty....but then i luv everything about them. sometimes bad incidents occur too. local cats get easy entry through open door and pounce upon the sparrow kids. my heart is broken!

05 Feb 2007 ; mating observed, male mounted female 7 times , 4 failures.
06 Feb 2007 ; Mating observed, birds carrying dry grass to nest, In all 197 sparrows counted in locality in evening hrs.
07 Feb 2007 ; Male observed mounting female 10 times, 50 % failures,
08 Feb 2007 ; Mating, repeated several time in duratin of an hour, seen carryingsoft feathers, cotton to the nest in mainswitch box.

The Powai Lake harbours innumerable water plants. The sparrows hover over the reeds and swoop down on caterpillars and other insects crawling inside the dense vegetation. Once their prey is firmly clasped in their beak, they perch on the promenade to have their meal in peace. The same procedure is repeated multiple times by thousands of sparrows inhabiting the lakeside.The bustling activity of the tiny residents reminds one of a busy marketplace.
