I was a small school girl then studying in Class 2 or 3. My dad used to drop me at school in our JAVA motorbike. During nesting period around early spring, a sparrow had built its nest in the place for tool box in the bike. Rather the nest was built within a day since dad had used the bike on saturday to drop me at school and then to his office. After saturday afternoon, the bike was not used until Monday morning. Within Sunday, sparrow had built its nest. Rather, I had noticed sparrows chirping loudly all through Sunday around the bike but it never struck me it was building its nest.
Monday morning when dad tried to go near the bike, two sparrows kept fluttering around his head,sometimes sitting on the bike and chirping loudly. My dad sensed siomething wrong and just peeped into the toolbox enclosure to find a neat and compact nest built.
Of course, we could not use our bike for quite some weeks during when sparrow couple laid eggs, small ones were born. Only after they flew away that we could use our bike, rather, sparrows had cordoned off the area around our bike during gestation, delivery and when the young ones were still babies. Unfortunately, those days we were not so familiar or conversant with clicking photos; hence have nothing to show as memories.

this information holds good for the last 20 years or so. In fact, 24 years ago, I used to see a particular kingfisher bird come to this park regularly, plus there used to be a number of hoopoes, but for the last 10 years , I haven't seen any hoopoes in this park.

24 years ago, when I moved in here, there were more sparrows.They used to enter the house to build nests, but not any more, sadly.
The number of mainas & pigeons has risen exponentially.
