very beautiful to see its sand bath. realy a wonderful scene and enchanting one to see its play. while viewing its playing and jumping we forget all worries.

I am a resident of Dahisar the last suburban area of Mumbai. In my colony building where stay on each floor there are atleast two active nest of sparrows. From last week I am having an observation that at the back side of our house window there is a wall and infront of it is a big iron grilling. In between the wall and grilling a sparrow couple has started building nest every day they are bringing lost of dried material for the construction of the nest hope within a couple of days they might complete the nest.

We have put up the sparrow homes distributed by the local NGOs since the last two years, but the sparrows have never built their nests there. The sparrows are building their nests around the house in other spaces. We have observed the number of sparrows increasing in the last two years. Earlier we hardly saw any, although we have always been putting food (wheat rotis) for birds. Now the sparrows are coming regularly to eat them.

We had a House Well within our Compound. I was in my teens during that period. The sparrows used to build nest in the small gaps inside the well. I used to locate 1 or 2 nests. Almost I used to spot 8 - 10 sparrows on a day, especially during morning hours. I could even spot the younger ones in the nest. Some fall in the well and others survive. We (our family) serve them rice and grains.

We used to keep grains for the sparrows on our balcony and many sparrows used to come . A very curious thing i observed over time was that , only one sparrow would eat from the bowl kept and the rest would pick the grains that had fallen on ground . When that one sparrow finished eating , another would get a chance. Ocassionally many sparrows ate together from the bowl too. I assume that it might be that the one Sparrow is of a higher rank / leader amongst them all and therefore gets to eat first !
But it was just wonderful watching these sparrows everyday !
