Most of the nests found are in the gaps of the shutters of the shops and often they tend to fall down. The sparrow population is seemingly reducing in this area.
I have placed a bird feeder for them and there is fairly good response for that now. But it took almost one month for the birds to get attracted to the artificial feeders. Now Lots of sparrows are coming on a regular basis.

sparrows are observed almost everyday as it is an area covering a water pond and trees around. they are often seen chirping and taking bath. nestings are rarely observed.

5 Years back Sheikh Sarai was alive with the chirping of sparrow. For the last 2 years I have rarely seen any sparrows. Whenever my children and I spot a sparrow we have a minor celebration. Sheikh Sarai has a number of pigeons and crows. surprisingly this area now has a tree pie couple and quite a few green bee catchers. But although these have increased, the number of sparrows has almost disappeared. I have recently shifted to Noida. And I am very glad to say that there is a visible population of house sparrow here.

We have a small shoe box nest in our own balcony where we have been able to successfully host the sparrows for last one year. We have seen atleast 4-5 progenies (2-3 chicks at a time) of which only 02 could not survive so far. Hopefully the rest survived after they left us. The same pair is now back so we will see some chicks soon :-)
