I saw two sparrows about 6 months back near my house. Nothing since then. I have placed some pots in a stand hanging below the balcony in my house. Upto now no birds have used the same for nesting. I am hoping that some sparrows might start nesting there.

I started using bird feeders (10) I use 30 kg pearl millet/month for sparrows.
In 6 years the number of House Sparrows have increased from a few pairs (40 pairs)to over 500 birds. I use nest boxes also. It works out very well. I have distributed so far some 1000 bird feeders to Schools, local people and tourist that visit CEDO (my initiative in Kutch)

I lived in chennai before the given period and i noticed a heavy drop in sparrows population there in chennai.
After shifting to trichy i never found a single house sparrow here !
But in this location theres a lot and lots of wild sparrows which are thrice the size of an house sparrow.

Sparrows started visiting our house everyday for the past 3 months.We have a mirror in our verandah which I believe is the main reason for sparrows visiting our house besides the mango tree at our backyard and lemon tree in our neighbors house where they are also seen frequently.Every morning and evening hey stand in front of the mirror chirping happily enjoying their beautiful image in the mirror.I wonder whether they know its their reflection or think that there is another sparrow inside the mirror!

I remember after the earthquake in 2001 the sparrows disappear from the area I live, also the squirrels stopped climbing the buildings, earlier both used to nest. After 2 years or so the squirrels came back on the trees but sparrows never returned.
