There was a time a few years ago when one would NOT see any sparrows. Past few months, however, there has been a discernible change. We can again see sparrows. COuld it be that they newer generation of sparrows are now used to the mobile phone radiation?

The sparrows were nesting in my house. They nested upto 2009 and nesting was successfull. Subsequently, in 2010 and 2011, they initated the nesting activity, but gave up half way through!

I had made a cardboard box with an opening, and kept it in my balcony, hoping that sparrows would make a nest in it. They came and were looking at it also, as if inspecting it. However, a pair of Mynas also came a few days later and then there was pandemonium. Both pairs made a lot of chattering noise, and finally the sparrows had to make an exit. Now the pair of mynas have made their nest in the box.

WHEN WE SPREAD GRAINS LIKE SAMAI, MILLET, ETC.,IN OUR BALCONY WALL SPARROWS SIMPLY COME AND SIT THERE IN A GROUP OF MORE THAN 6 AND THEY HAVE THEIR FOOD AND FLEW AWAY. THIS IS GOING ON SMOOTHLY FOR THE PAST 1 YEAR OR MORE. WE ARE READY TO SERVE AND CONSERVE THE LITTLE GENIUS BIRDS AT ANY COST.

the area I live in is rich in greenery and trees, unlike other parts of Lucknow, where, unfortunately,the green cover has reduced drastically in last few years. Also, we have been regularly feeding the birds with grains (in our garden area), since 1-2 years.So this might have been the reason for spotting them in fair numbers around here, but sadly, this is not likely to apply in other parts of Lucknow.
I hope such an effort will be undertaken for other species of birds as well.
