In Indalpur village, 3 to 4 km form campus quite a number of pairs were seen. On 06/04/2012 atleast 12 pairs were seen. Many were nesting. When the roof was of long grass, certinly nests were found with eggs. I even found a nest from the pants pocket of a person,Many young ones were also found. They appear to be thriving.
They are living with the people. Nest are found wherever holes or crevices are found the nests are clumsy.

Before the time period i specified i saw sparrows in this area however now they are gone, no sparrows. Now i only see bulbuls and babblers in this area.

The Sparrows come there in the thousands in the evening to roost for the night. Obviously they must be coming from villages nearby were they might be having nest.

had many families of nesting sparrows in my room. used to wake up early to switch off the fan so that the birds could fly without getting hurt.
this was an old type of window, so we have had sparrows nesting on the ventilator of the windows.
once we even had them nesting on the cup of our fan. the book shelf used to be open, the topmost shelf was again a popular nesting spot.
today my parents tell me that they hardly see sparrows there. they live in the same house. the neighbourbood has changed though, what used to be be a lot of open cultivated rice land is today completely filled with homes.
Pondicherry still does not have many flats, we still have open space around the house, but see sparrows occasionaly today.
