Church Chitradurga Karnataka
actually, I live in this place and I see the sparrows everyday. There were a pair and from yesterday I observe one more pair trying to make their nest. Their nesting have been constantly removed till I reached this place in May 2011. In fact twice they have brought forth the chicks and its lovely to see though many a times they are a good distraction during our prayer and services. So wanted to help them by moving them without any harm done. I prefer that they stay with us..because they are innocent and harmless. we have a few love birds and they have their meals from them...so its not a problem but the second pair have begun to make their nest and I do not want it to be removed. even if removed got to be done carefully. I like them flying around and chirping around and around and around. Help requested.

I am very much worried that we can only hear on cell phones in future their chirps if at all we would like to hear the sweet chirps of sparrows or a kingfisher. Of late, I rarely hear one or two chirps on the road side trees or at my small garden or neighbour's trees or at 13th main road near shops with rice [ or ] at arumbakkam p.h. road chennai on the road side trees or at maduravoyal which is fast becoming a busy place or near harrington road. also at RAJI St, at Ayanavaram. People started eating noodles and pizzas instead of rice, but birds like rice / paddy and insects which are killed by banned pesticides. pl. come behind S.M.F.chennai, you can hear some mynahs and pigeons, parrots and crows peacefully. Beautiful location to stay / live or atleast to walk or learn driving cars.
I used to see the sweet birds feeding their young ones when I was working for two months at our late friend RAJENDRANS' FACTORY in April and May 2005.. He used to hang cartons [ like our shoe boxes with a hole or two at both ends ] above the gates so that they could play around and multiply. In those two months, it was my time pass there, to watch the busy birds going for 100 trips a day to get a leaf with worm / insects for their young ones.
Our great Rajendran is no more to have them as pet in his factory / home. They are not bothered about the sound of the factory or movements of human beings. But will not eat whatever we keep for them because it is new to them.
We could see more sparrows playing on the road-sand, kingfisher, bulbul and other beautiful birds at OOty / kodai or even Yelagiri. Chennai is becoming hot and hotter due to global warming with lots of aircel, airtel towers at each nook and corner of the roads which are disturbing for the little tiny birds multiplying and hatching their little eggs.vide page 1 of metroplus supplementary of " THE HINDU" today.[HEADING ] THREE CHIRPS FOR THE SPARROW and last week's news papers. [ HINDU AND ] AND CHINMAYA VIDYALAYA'S MAGAZINES LIKE DINDIMAH ETC.
We are trying to save the animal tiger which kills man and vice versa. In the 70's we used to see the sparrows cut by our fans accidentally [ because they were not used to fans or human habitat ] We did not have a window grill then. In 80's we saw the poor boys from the nearby slums hunting for sparrows and squirrel for their fun and food, there by reducing their number right from 70's and 80's. The environment is not conducive for their peaceful living and sweet chirps. People wants to hear different music from different cell phones.
No one wants the naturual sound of the birds.
If possible, try to have a carton / shoe box with a opening on your balcony so that only sparrows could enter the same or scavenger crow or pigeon will enter into it. That way we can save some of them till next few years only. They will hunt for their food. It is pathetic that we realise after 2 decades that it is less in number. we do not have time.
Can any one pl. help / save them to show to our grand children if they exist after 5 years or so ?
with love,
R. GANES.

while awaiting the arrival of a Kumaran's school bus that took us to the dreaded swim camp.I noticed that there was a fairly large number of House Sparrows nesting on the nearby ventilator.
the next few days too I noticed the sparrows. hence I felt the need to report it.

Through my growing years, I have been used to waking up to the sound of House Sparrows. Until I moved out to study & work, I observed the deterioration of their chirps. Now, I feed them everyday, so that I can hear them once again. I hope they keep growing and making our mornings as beautiful as ever.
