Residential apartment near a Rice Shop Vadapalani Chennai Tamil Nadu
I am greatly concerned about the dwindling numbers of House Sparrows. Luckily i spotted a couple of sparrows in my apartment when i lived in Chennai. Immediately i took a snap from my cellphone camera. Then i regularly hear the Chirpy sounds when i walk to my bus-stop in the mornings around 7am. The reason i guess for the presence of few sparrows in the busy Vadapalani area in Chennai is that, there is a big Rice Godown and shop in South Sivan Koil street.. Sparrows might be attracted by those rice grains which are left over while loadin/unloading of rice bags from that shop.. Thanks to that rice shop!

To, Citizen Sparrow,
I'm actively working on 'Save House Sparrow Project' since 2010. I've installed 8 Nest boxes at my home & in these two years Four successful breeding is recorded & Fifth nesting is continue at the moment :). Currently I've two House Sparrow Couple at home & One couple has successfully brought up their chicks for four times & Last breeding is successful just yesterday (16/4/2012).
Finally yesterday Sparrow Chicks have left the nest box to start their new life :o)) <3. Since yesterday I was searching them & today morning found them on nearby leafy tree. They are two in numbers & were feeding by their parents & hopping on branches with their tiny wings :))). They will soon be expert flyer xxx. Hope they will also return to build their nest at my home again :)).
I've distributed Nest boxes to other people in the city as well & they are having nesting in their boxes too :)). Will soon share new info.

I have seen only 3-4 sparrows from the last 2 years.Today morning there were only two,that too disappeared after some time. But our area has more than 10 trees giving scope to lot of birds to live but sparrows are missing.
