There was a time till mid 90's when I lived there I would see lot of sparrows chirping and hopping around, then I moved to US and got back in 2009, and one day I realized there are hardly any sparrows around and its very hard to spot them may be on a big Neem tree that too once in a while.

The sparrows I see are generally see on my compound shrubs and trees of tagar, kamini and ixora. Whilst sparrows are okay here it is the tailor bird whose sighting have gone down considerably recently.

I have seen sparrows building nest on the Wooden Cabinet in my Balcony (in apartment) for 2-3 generations of sparrows.
Hence I got 2 wooden sparrow nests (which I procured from Zoological park, Hyderabad on 20/03/2011 on World Sparrow Day)which I got fixed in my Balcony. However, I found that the sparrows did not like the same and tried to build their nest on top of the wooden boxes.
I got a carpenter to modify the same so that these are now attached sideways & the sparrows are now happy and have nested multiple times on this changed nest.

After observing sparrow I say one thing that sparrow spices are decreases day to day. If we can not conserve them, they will be completely destroyed.

We have an active nest in a crevice in an exterio wall of the house itself. The opening is partially covered by tiled window eaves. I see the nesting pair almost every day in the morning. I have also noticed another female around the nest occasionally, i.e. I see two females at the same time.
