Kedar Champhekar - Mitramandal Colony, Parvati Mitra Mandal Colony, Parvati Darshan Pune Maharashtra

My mother used to place crumbs of bread on the window sill and sparrows would surely come to eat the crumbs. Also along the roads withing the colony there were dusty patches where I could see at least 10-20 sparrows having a dust bath every morning. The sparrows also would always try to make nests under the curtain pelmets in our house.

This is a sparrow haven!! There are sparrows all around you, near vegetable vendors, in the basement near flower sellers and everywhere. I have seen active nests in large numbers, in electric fittings, in artificial nestboxes put up by vendors (carton boxes with space cut out for entry/exit, or baskets). There appears to be ample feeding opportunity for adults as well as young ones since there are grain shops and vegetable/flower vendors in this market. Garbage can be seen dumped in the open. The vendors seem to be aware of their 'neighbour' sparrows and their requirements, evident from the fact that they have, on their own, put up nestboxes for sparrows' habitation, without intervention from any external govt./private agencies!

Nishant Barde - Saraswati Vihar Parsodi Nagpur Maharashtra

I kept water saucer in my balcony in this area from the date I moved in here i.e. from Dec 2009. Earlier I used to see crows but not a single these days. Daily visitors to my water saucer are House Sparrows, Maina, Bulbul and Dove; sometimes Indian M. Robins and ashy prinia also visit this saucer. From January 2012, I have placed a box with holes sufficient to enter and exit and also small holes for air vents above that water saucer i.e. near the ceiling and good news is that it was occupied by House Sparrow couple from Mid February or something. I am not sure if the female had given eggs or not as I don't want to disturb those sparrows.

A lot of air travellers to and from Bangalore have reported seeing the antics of House sparrows within (and outside) the BIAL terminal. I have observed these birds feeding off leftovers from plates (is it Taste of India??). Also pecking at food from the ground near CCD. Observed about 5 of these near car-parking in a hedge.

Deepa Mohan - Gir Forest Haripur Gujarat

We saw a lot of sparrows in the villages in the scrub jungle area.
