In my childhood days I could see lot of sparrow’s in my hometown and some of the sparrow nets in home also, sometimes it was entering my home put their eggs. It was in 1990 to 2000. After that I could see few sparrow disappear. And I moved to Singapore my IT job. For last 10 years I saw sparrow are in Singapore with healthy and lots of population. But why it is not there in my hometown? What I have identify based on my observation. In my village in farm fields(paddy) there was stated to spare pesticides before it was not there in my village and in addition to stop rat’s farmers are using some poisons in paddy stores. Those it will stopping and killing the sparrow. But in Singapore I could not see any chemical its pure nature that was not there in my place. Its polluted with chemicals.

I grew up with sparrows in my village agraharam, near gudiyattam vellore dt . We almost played with them. After coming to chennai in1966 I lived in small portions . There also I watched them in the mornings. Then we moved to Delhi to my surprise there also lots of kuruvis.for the past. Ten years, it slowly vanished from my sight .nowadays in and around mandaveli and Mylapore there are no sparrow at all. It saddens my heart. When ever I find time I used to go to my village and watch them to my hearts content. I took so many photos of them . It earned a nick name for myselfbfrom my husband ---- kuruvikkari......sparrows chirping in the mornings gives so much happiness . I pray the almighty to give the same pleasure to my next generations. I will do whatever I can for this cause. Thanks a lot for taking care.

PEOPLE USED TO HUNT AND EAT IN THOSE DAYS 30- 35 YEARS AGO. CELL PHONE TOWERS AND NO COW / BUFALLOW DUNG TO FEED ON AND USE OF PESTICIDES TO KILL INSECTS AND CUT DOWN ON TREES AND BUSHES DUE TO URBANISATION / BUILDING OF HOUSES AND NO ONE TO BOTHER ABOUT THEM VITAN, SPENCERS, MORE AND RELIANCE FRESH REPLACING OLD MURUGAN STORES AND PETTY DEPARTMENTAL SHOPS WHICH USED TO KEEP RICE AND WHEAT OUT AT ENTRANCE SO THAT SPARROWS USED TO FEED ON THEM. ALSO PEOPLE EAT OUT AT HOTELS PIZZA AND MAGGI RATHER THAN RICE AND WHEAT NOWADAYS. NETLONS REPLACING OPEN WINDOWS / A.C. LARGE NO. OF CROW AND PIGEONS AS COMPETITORS / PREDATORS ETC ARE THE REASONS FOR DECLINE IN NUMBER OF SPARROW. GOVT IS ONLY BOTHERED ABOUT TIGERS AND NOT SPARROWS. EVEN OTHER TINY BIRDS ARE NUMBERED NOW AND EVEN THAT WILL BE IN STORY IN FUTURE PL.

I maintain a sparrow feeder outside the window of my house. Initially, for a month, sparrows were not attracted to the feeder. However, I now observe that a few sparrows come to the feeder. The number of sparrows that come to the feeder are few (around 3-4 everyday). I feed "ragi" to them. I also have a water bowl outside the window, but sparrows usually do not drink water. I would welcome suggestions from you on how to attract more sparrows to the feeder everyday.
