Many tiled house and sparrows were part of life like other common birds. Almost every house had a nest. Sparrows frequently in and out of it. Very interesting to watch. I remember, my neighbour use to feed them with grains and rice. Now it becomes a rare. Now hardly see a few ( may be 5 or more) near my house.

There were a large number of trees in this area, which is adjacent to the Peshwe Park (a large garden) and every evening at around 6.00pm to 8.00 pm a large flock of sparrows would occupy the tree and create a ruckus. That's where i first learnt a phrase in Marathi about birds - 'Chimnyanchi Shala' (i.e. a school of sparrows)

As Navy Nagar is a housing colony for defence officers and their families, it has a lot of greenery and open spaces. Hence, this area was actively frequented by sparrows during the time i lived there.
