There was a time when there were a lot of sparrows running around the near by barren land near our campus. But, I could not spot a single sparrow now a days. That land is now under construction hence no sparrows are spotted. This change I noticed happened in a matter of 3 months only. Due to urbanisation and having more and more buildings being erected every month, the sparrow population in our locality has come down to a very small number.

Frequently visits our garden to feed on the chicken grains and indoors to eat spiders from cobwebs. They are also noticed bumping at a mirror at our neighbor's balcony.

There was a nest on my window sill & a baby sparrow fell down, I managed to return it to its nest, but the parents refused to own it. They kept pecking and chasing the baby till it died. I was a child and was very disturbed when I saw this. Also remember these often chirpy, gentle and at the same time somewhat aggressive birds - they'd eat up dead cockroaches that my mum would sweep out of the house. I would be amazed at their abilities, because these were poisoned cockroaches.

All sparrows roosts on a tree near the Bus-stand. The area is highly polluted with greese, engine oil etc. Still the birds are surviving
