SANGIT KUMAR MANDAL - HAKIMPARA, SILIGURI Hakim Para Siliguri West Bengal

I, all on a sudden, surprisingly noticed that no sparrow is chirping around our locality for reasons not known to me. I think adequate care should be initiated to protect them from extinction.

P MADHUSUDHAN - Pocket A2 Gharoli Dairy Farm, Mayur Vihar III New Delhi Delhi

The nest of sparrows has been built into a uncemented hole made for fixing an iron barrier on the top floor of the DDA Flats (third floor). Since wires belonging to cable network provides abound in the area, running zig zag across buildings, you can easily watch sparrows trying to get to their nest concealed as described above by hopping on to wires slowly and stealthily and in a sudden move enter the nest. While standing unmovingly at the time, you cannot but help a smile and admire at the swiftness and diligence they show in feeding their young ones or building their nests. Although not even an amateur birdwatcher, I do take keen interest in observing new wingers who hover around the house or on the trees. Also being from a rural village in Kerala, I have had the opportunity to closely watch different kinds of birds sitting on the trees nearby.

C.BALAJI - Marketplace close to Hotel Zambala Close to Hotel Zambala, in the marketplace Kaza town Himachal Pradesh

I was on a visit to Kaza town in Spiti in June 2007.I stayed at Hotel ZAMBALA approximately from June 13 to June 20, 2007.
There close to the hotel, I saw some sparrows outside a dhaba-type eatery. There were about 4-5 sparrows,at least one male, and a mix of another 4 sparrows,in a busy chattering group. The time was either early morning, 8AM, or late afternoon about 4 O'clock in the afternoon.
