I had placed my son's Plastic toy train in the kitchen window and it was used as a bird house by the sparrows for several years and I have seen generation after generation using the same place for nesting.During 1993 sparrows stopped coming and it was during this time that we also shifted to Navi Mumbai.The Toy train was fitted in my house in Navi Mumbai but there were no sparrows visiting the same. So I removed the same .
But now, since the past 3 Years the sparrow population has increased and I have kept 2 Bird houses in my balcony at Navi Mumbai , and 8 to 10 sparrows daily visit the Bird house for Food , but do not nest. In our building compound itself there will be more than 50 sparrows. The Pigeon Population is also very large and crows are few. Maybe the absence of crows has helped in increasing the sparrow population.

Sometime when guest heard their voice, many of them asks that you really have very nice bell/wall watch tone... then we need to explain that one is natural and not require any kind of battaries to execute.

My father is a true sparrow lover,Its his daily routine to fill up sparrow food & water pot and a special pot for them to bath and enjoy.
We started living in MDV colony since 2004 & since then the aforesaid routine of him is as regular as the rise of SUN.we all participate in this divine task of him.
Earlier there were a few birds and very rarely seen nests but now nests are quite common in our house & the chirping sparrows are present throughout the day.

well ,i live in a highrise building (twelfth floor) in a highly populated powai area of mumbai suburbs,and spotting 0ne or two(sometime 3-4) gives me such immense joy and happiness that i literally start talking to them,try mu best to click n capture them in my camera and then paint but have been unsuccessful so far.i always feel they come here for me to give that special happiness almost everyday,its their melodious chirping that brings smile.I connect with my hometown.i connect with my father who still insists that i should paint regularly ,these sparrows make me think to paint.its hard to believe that sparrows are at a verge of extinction,wish we all can do something to stop this .
