The sparrows which are nesting in the kitchen duct have become active. Today I heard faint chirping of the baby sparrows, a welcome addition to their number. The female seen after many days for the first time flew up and down along with the male probably to collect food. She looked a little tired but was quick to get back to her nest.

I have changed my reidence once during the last six years of my life in Doha and have been feeding them daily. They are a sprightly lot, very cheerful and noisy. Its a pleasure feeding them-they turn up outside my kitchen door early in the morning and create a ruckus if Iam late in feeding them! Sometimes, they peck at my glass door or window pane! My backyard is strewn with bird poop which is a small pice to pay watching these little birdies alive and happy! We have pictures of sparrows feeding each other! An extremely tender and rewarding moment captured on a few seconds of video. Due to the presence of gardens, manicured lawns and flower beds around Doha city, we find quite a number of sparrows and other beautiful desert birds and some migratory birds along the northern coast of Doha in the protected mangrove areas.

Sparrows numbering more than a hundred would every evening chirp very loudly in chorus just after sunset atop the trees mostly tall eucalyptus trees. Their joint chirping was so loud that the traffic noise nearby would not be heard and if one is talking on the phone the person on the other side of the line could hear the sparrows only. This would be repeated in the early morning also just at dawn.

Actually with a lot of filth and dirt getting piled up, we have Crows as frequent visitors and not sparrows. I used to feed the sparrows at a particular time and surprisingly they would chirp if i incidently forgot. I did that almost the time i used to have my own lunch. Keeping fresh water every alternate day, my balcony was actually a haven for a rather rare species of bird, describing it would be like a small, olive green colour body, white streaks along the end, quite round and bushy i would say. they would make a typical sound while chirping. relishing the ripe friuts on the Aaudumbar tree they would accumulate in many as a dozen of them. Sparrows though now dont accept the food that i give them, they rather disappear when i place the food. the food is the same as i have, as i don't give any leftovers or so to them. It seems they have abbandonned me for a unknown reason.
