Since 1999, I am feeding birds in my balcony, i stay at 2nd floor, various birds come, but than I had than observed only one male HS, after some months not a single HS was seen. but since 2001 it stated with one or two pairs now there are atleast 10 pairs, I keep feeder and water to the birds and also wooden boxes where they breed. They enjoy Bajri-broken-Rice during winter and Rainy, while in summer broken rice only.

I know people talk about vanishing sparrows but in my area they have staged a minor comeback.
When we came to lve in this place in 2008, we saw almost no sparrows. We saw only crows. But we now see sparrows, pigeons and crows and maina and other birds. Sparrows, we see, never more than 4 at a time.
On our terrace we spread grain for them every day and they come there twice / thrice every day.

I do see different spices of small(bull bull, other smaller than house sparrows) as well as large(Eagle, Shikra, Piegeon, Crows, Parrots, etc) I had kept two boxes 1) house Sparrows 2) bullbull but none had made any nest in our balcony. except one smaller bird which could make her nest twice on the flower bush but I was eager to see HS which I was unable to spot till date.

Our kitchen window used to be crowded with both male and female sparrows whole day. Their black and white shit used to everywhere on the window grill. We had given up cleaning it! They would try make a nest over the tube-light and we would shove them away fearing that the ceiling fan may hurt them. I think in year 2001, every building in our colony was granted some extension and thus some extra construction was carried out around each building. And then, the houses became bigger, but the sparrows were never to be seen.

I’m living in above said locality since November 2008. There were many flock of sparrows used to visit my home regularly. I used to observe flock sitting over electric lines, telephone line and TV cable lines in the locality. Number of flocks visiting was drastically reduced and now I can hardly count any flocks over there. Sparrow flocks have been regularly visiting my home and I usually used to woke up in morning by listening sparrow chirp during 2008-09. Many pair in the breeding season used to search every nook and corner of my home for making nest. Towards end of 2009, some cell phone company erected its tower just 50 meter away from my home and then onwards I kept this observation in mind and shared this with all my fellow forestry scientist at CSWCRTI research centre Datia and NRCAF, Jhansi as well. This year I found only two pair making attempt to build their nest and that that four birds only visiting my home premises. Large flocks are vanished. This is one of the right observations I kept on impact of cell phone tower on sparrows and I opener to me, how our scientific progress killing other creature in the nature?
