Despite being an old colony with most houses having several openings that can potentially be used as nests, never saw any house sparrow. Interestingly the birdlife here is otherwise ok with observed nesting of tree pies, tailor birds, crows, mynas, pigeons, barbets, and unidentified warblers. Even though there are open spaces, there is absolutely no trace of a sparrow at least in the past several months that I have been here.
Just re-editing this entry as I saw a pair of sparrows bringing nesting material on 14th April 2012 to an old, partly broken street tube-light post. The cavity is probably too small to be used by a pigeon or myna!

It was a habit with my father to scatter some grains in the verandah. My brother in law does that even today. Many birds including the sparrow would come. My mother always kept a rice ball outside the window before she began her meal. This would also bring the sparrows to the window.

I also observed sparrows in several localities in Kutch including at Bhuj, near Chaari Dhand, Pingaleshwar,villages outside Bhuj, Bachau etc in good numbers. I do not have all the details.

1. Earlier there were no sparrows in our township.We could only see it in the shopping area of Kurnipet, outside our township.Then a new hostel building constructed.The design of the hostel building was helpful in providing some safe space for sparrows to make nests.
