I remember when I was small and even when I grew up, I used to see scores of sparrows all over. In my native place in Punjab, we had a lot of nests of sparrows and again the no. of sparrows was quite big. It is so sad to note that in Punjab (when I went there recently) there were no sparrows to be seen in my open vast fields. Even in the place where I reside (in Pune) sparrows have declined a lot.
I wish we could surely do something to bring back the lost glory of us having lovely birds like the sparrow all around us...

I HAD SEEN HOUSE SPARROWS ONCE IN MANY MONTHS IN OUR SERVANT HOUSES BEHIND OUR HOUSE.BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN THE NESTS .
BUT WHILE WE TRAVEL BY ROAD FROM BALASORE TO BHUBANESHWAR ON NH-5 , WE COME ACROSS MANY HOUSE SPARROW IN THE DHABA ON THE STOP OVER FOR MEALS .THERE ARE REALLY MANY SPARROWS THERE , COULDN'T SEE THE NESTS BUT THE NUMBER WAS REALLY GOOD .
IN 2010, WHEN I WENT TO SUNDERBANS TIGER RESERVE WITH BNHS
WE HAD SEEN MANY SPARROWS ON THE THATCHED ROOFS OF THE COTTAGES .
