I have around 10 Sparrow nest from Wood, Card board, Pepsi bottle (1.5 or 2 Liter) etc. mounted near by near in my balcony. Around 14 Sparrow stay there & give birth to new babies frequently. Fortunately we had planted 20 to 25 Trees in past in front of my flat & today we are flooded with birds of different species apart from sparrow.

I have bought around 300+ card board nest from some NGO & distributed to friends. Due to big opening in that box (3X3 inch) sparrow were not nesting there. Recently I made that hole small to 1.5 X 2 inch & they have started nesting.

So my suggestions is to see the design of nest practically.

SUSHIL SURESH MOMAYA - SAKHARAM COMPLEX, DOMBIVALI-THANE Shastri Nagar, Dombivli West Dombivli Maharashtra

I always observe Sparrows & Other local birds like Dove, Parrots & Crows etc. But from last few years I saw that numbers of sparrows & other birds are reducing dangerously in my area where I am residing. I also traveled many times to my native place at Naliya - Kutchh - Gujarat during these time. I have spend my childhood there and then I used to see many sparrows (Around 100 to 200 sparrows in a day) but now when I have visited the place i hardly found 10 to 15 sparrows there. When I have discussed this issues with my family members, friends, relatives & other knowing people they had given 3 major reason due to which the numbers of these birds are reducing
1) Use of Poisonous Medicines in Farming for Killing of Insects - Insects are one of the Main source of Food for these birds usage of Fatal Chemicals in Farming is Increased to Kill these Insects due to which the Numbers of Birds who Died after Eating these poisonous insects is also increased and it is in Mass Numbers Thousands of Birds in a year
2) Increasing Heat in the atmosphere(Global Warming)
3) Lac of Water resources to satisfy these Birds Thirst specially in the Summer

I would like to suggest following solutions to solve this issue

1) Avoid the use of Powerful Chemicals in Farming to Kill the Insects OR Usage of Natural Medicines for the same
2) Put Artificial Nest in Peoples Home at Safe Place
3) Put Water Bowls & Food Bowls in your balconies or Terrace for these birds
