Shishir R. Raval - Pratap Gunj Pratapgunj Vadodara Gujarat

I have lived in four different houses / flats this neighborhood since early 1960s. Before I left for out of country in 1985, there were plenty of house sparrows and active nest (even inside our flats). Then whenever I visited / came back home for holidays (in 1989, 1994, 1998, and 2002), I gradually saw the decline sparrow population. I have moved back to India and live in the same neighborhood since 2005. I have not seen a single sparrow since then. It is a sad situation. In Gujarati children's literature male and female sparrows are depicted as main characters. Now, my children can't relate with it. We the humans must understand that this planet is NOT meant for only us. A new ecological economy must / can be evolved. Let me know how we can work together... but for a holistic vision and approach. Best..

ajay kumar kalia - F block sector 50 noida Sector 50 NOIDA Uttar Pradesh

i moved to this area in 2005, not a single sparrow was visible, but in the year 2010, suddenly the house sparrow made its appearance and now they are seen in large numbers. we have a lot of ficus benjenia green trees around our area and in the evening hundreds of sparrows are seen chirping and resting on these trees. during daytime they are seen frequently perching in our balconies and chajjas looking for food, though the pigeons give then a lot of competition for food, but there numbers are increasing day by day. further i feel that the development of a huge park in our area may also have contributed to the increase in sparrow population. they have recently started making nests in small holes, chimney exhaust pipes, pipe shafts etc

Simpy - A-2-A janakpuri residential colony Possangipur New Delhi Delhi

Sparrows are declining in their number every year and visits are getting rarely. Since I am living here for the last 15 years (and get aware by this rich fauna,in my Zoology subject at graduation), they need our assistance in their survival.
Besides sparrows, there are number of other birds also, I am seeing, like Red-vent Bulbul, a a kind grey-horn bill having a long beak, over which there is some crest-shaped structure, along with mynas, koel, pigeon and our own universal bird i.e. crow, and not to forget there are some peacock also in our neighborhood park, well 2-3 female species, am not sure about any male-one.
