Viral Patel - India Yogi Jayraj Nagar, Borivali West Mumbai Maharashtra

During the period in 90's I used to see more than 100 sparrows in my building itself. There is a Jamun tree in front of my balcony where in the morning and evening i used to see more than 100 sparrows and their chirping. But now a days I cannot find more than 30 sparrows. The main reason for extinct is that the sparrows are not able to build the nest as they used to build it earlier. I am trying to save the sparrows by providing them the food on daily basis and if there is a nest i make sure that no one removes it. A little bit of proper measures taken in my area can increase the population of the sparrows.

I was sitting in one of the restaurants and eating a sandwich when i was shocked to find around 10-15 sparrows amidst the chairs helping themselves to some leftovers.

Tanya - Referral hospital campus Referral hospital, 4th mile Dimapur Nagaland

It was difficult to get the local children and adults to not shoot the birds with stones using catapults and air guns. There were around 6-10 birds only and none beyond the campus. So most residents were quite protective of them.

Pronoy Baidya - Flower Market Area of Kadamba Bus Station Kanyakumari - Panavel Rd Panaji Goa

The sparrows are divided into two distinct groups. each group consists of 10 - 12 birds. One group feeds near the grocery shops at the side of the bus stand, while the other group feeds and roams about in the flower market area. Both the groups fiercely protect their territories. there seems to be tough competition between the two groups.

Today ie the 7th April, 2012 the sparrows were seen asking us for something probably more food and places for nesting. The chirping of sparrows I am listening to is at 10:12 in the morning.

I am thinking of providing more places for the sparrows for nesting as there are clashes between squirrels, sparrows, robins, minas. This time too the crevices behind the house in the garden is attracting many birds for nesting. Usually the sparrows nest in ventolators of the toilets but recent years I have not seen then around this areas. As there are cats and snakes around the birds chose a higher places on the walls for nesting.

My wife wanted to go out of Delhi for a cooler place with a sanctuary as we have 4 day holidays this week end. I did not show any interest and poor lady has settled for an outing around her own house, the jungle surrounding my house. The hunt for bird photography has been her hobby for quite some time our passion with a small sony digicam. I think she will anyhow not regret that she did not go any where in this break.
