Sparrows had almost disappeared in our area prior to the above period.
However, they seem to be making a reappearance over the last 1-2 years and are frequently seen outside our windows and sometimes even entering our flat on the 6th floor.
Definitely a very welcome sight.

We usually put out our paddy to dry before sending it to the mill.10 years back, flocks of sparrows would descend on the grains and they were a nuisance! Then we suddenly noticed their numbers dwindling drastically. It was just 4-8 sparrows. But this year their numbers seem to have shot up and we had quite a few of them visiting us.

though there is a fair amount of greenery in my loclality the sparrow population is very less compared to other birds like the rose ringed parakeet and the asian koel. there are 4-5 sparrows seen everyday by me compared large groups of parakeets and koels.it is also noticed that the sparrows are on a steady decline in my locality the reason seems to be the presence of crows and pigeons in huge numbers

The sparrows have trouble balancing their nests
on the pipes fixed outside our quarters.Their nests often keep fallin' down in bits.
Since ours is a govt. campus it would be
really nice if artificial sparrow houses (nest boxes) were made available on our campus.I feel people would even buy them at their nominal prices.
Our kids love to watch their activities. If we could tie up the artificial houses (nest boxes) ,the sparrows would thrive. Also it would be a treat for our kids to watch and observe their activities closely and thus instil and develop in them a love for nature.
Most people on our campus provide water and also food for the birds . Since we do have some cats on our campus these little birds prefer to have their nests at a height .
Kindly do make the nest boxes and bird feed available on our campus.
