rajiv chowk, near lift of gate no.2 Radial Road Number 4, Connaught Place New Delhi Delhi
Iam a Photographer and i always love to photograph nature.
One day i decided to photograph our domestic birds because iam fond of birds and photographing them. In Jan 2012 i spotted these house sparrows at inner circle of rajiv chowk exactly near to the lift of gate no.1 of metro station of rajiv chowk.
There was a small tree near to that lift and bunch of sparrows i spotted on that tree. And i felt so good when i spotted them in huge number. Then after that another day i again decided to photograph the same house sparrows at the same spot but unfortunately that particular tree was cut down by someone. I felt so bad when i saw that barren log of tree which was full of joyful house sparrows. That day i felt so bad about selfish human nature. I always wonder where they would go after that.

My native place is my village in Ghaziabad (UP) where sometimes we r able to sight some sparrows. Some 10-15 yrs back i can revisit my memories of seeing so many sparrows in the morning chirping around. Now people even in villages and open landscape areas complain that sighting of sparrows has become rare. Sparrows co-existed and lived with humans always. it has been disturbed by our closed concrete homes where there is no entry for thse lovely birds.

Brahmaputra Hostel, JNU,New Delhi Jawaharlal Nehru University New Delhi Delhi
The sparrows living in this reported area (Brahmaputra Hostel) in the Jawaharlal Nehru Campus, New Delhi make nests and live in and around the hostel premise. They are especially concentrated in the old wing of the hostel neighbouring with canteens there. There nests are built in the crevices of the brick walls, hollow plastic pipes inserted for draining water and iron shutter doors used in the shops of the hostel premise. It is their nesting season and i can see many of them carrying straws and other items for making nests here and there. There are many sparrows living in the JNU campus because of the greenery of the campus, availability of food and nesting places. So far i have located their folks near the canteen behind the central library of the JNU, PSR or Lovers' Point area (especially in the morning for eating grains fed by the those taking morning walks on the ring road of the campus). I am continuing my survey to locate more areas in the campus where sparrows are living.

sparrows were really common till maybe 2008-9. then they vanished. there weren't any sparrows in 2010, but they returned in 2011 in twos and threes and we have about 10 sparrows around my house this year. i have started putting some bajra near my gate along with some water. the grains look scattered so i guess birds eat them. we've also put a green curtain over an area of our garden so that birds have a shady place to avoid the summer sun. our neighbours have two huge ashoka trees so i guess its all very attractive for them. do tell me what i more can i do for these little friends.
