There was a mango tree and a couple of other trees in the courtyard of my house. After each thunderstorm or hailstorm, we had to collect the dead House Sparrows in the basket and throw them out of the house. It was taking many days to finally clear the house. Mango tree is still there and has much grown. About 50-100 sparrows still come and feed on the grains from the cow dung, cow feeds and the domestic throwaways. On the top of the building next to our house, a mobile tower has been erected since last 4-5 years and still a few sparrows are here in my house. At present sometimes we encounter a baby sparrow which was earlier a common sight and we were always playing with them during our childhood.

I am lucky to see a nest being built right now. They are building the nest in the gap of my bathroom window. Every morning i hear their chirping sound and they keep gathering twigs, hay, feather etc. and building it. I am trying my best not to disturb them. I see them quite often in my area where i live. They are so cute. I am planning to help them by keeping a bowl of water and grains.

In the past year a bougainvilla plant grew out of a pot and into the ground, spreading itself along the fence of this small garden in front of my building. It then became a home to a number of sparrows. They make a good deal of noise when the exit the bush one by one in the mornings and when they return in the evenings. They spend a lot of time chatterring to each other in and around the bush. When the maali takes the watering hose to the bush they will scamper out of reach of the droplets and perch themselves on the windows of the flats in my building chirping with excitement.
It's a delight to have them around and visitors often remark on the rare sight of sparrows at the window in mumbai.

The sparrows would always come inside the bedroom and use the curtain rod (as support)to try and make a nest with branches/twigs from the trees outside. This would happen almost every other day if the windows were open. The cleaning maid would move the curtains every morning and lots of dried twigs would fall. i have seen them do this myself :)
