I spotted sparrows in my backyard.i started feeding them rice grains for almost +2years now.The sparrows prefer rice to millets and other small grains. Two boxes for nests were set up last year but they nested in one of it this year. Two sparrows were found dead last year but the cause was not worked out.The flight distance is minimising and the sparrows chirp from early morning.I put grains and water every day at 8 AM which i feel is slightly late.Myna, bulbul and robin also visit but all feed together. No photographs or observations have been recorded.
The habitat is shrinking as two willow shrubs fell during monsoon and new construction only one willow bush left for roosting now.
will learn through your web site now.

These birds frequently nests in our attic / ceiling (tin / corrogated roof) of our stair case, using dried grasses and small twigs. however they do have to compete for best location with a number of pigeons who also nest in the attic. Our being an old neighbourhood almost every house has atleast one full grown tree of various species and hence nesting materials are always in good supply.
Recently a couple of sparrows have nested in our stair case ceiling and have given birth. However, unfortunately one of their chick have fallen from the nest (approx 10-15 days back) and was quickly devoured by our pet dogs. Earlier though the number of nests and the no. of birds seen were high (more than 20) and have now being reduced. Presently atleast 4-5 sparrows eagerly await their daily breakfast (few crumbs of thin araroot buiscuit) from my father and share it with their other neighbours (some crows and common Indian Myna - Acridotheres tristis.

the sparrows are seen in the small hedges growing in our building. However I have not seen any nests.
These have been seen along with Turdoides striata which seems to quarrel with the sparrows quite a lot

5th April 2012. A wonderful bright morning here in Noida. Both male and female sparrows are busy building their nest in my front courtyard. I watched and enjoyed their frantic activities while having my morning tea. Every few minutes both will fly away from the nest and return with thin blades of dry grass for lining their nest. After a while, at around 8 o’clock, I went out for a walk and there was more in store for me! Yearly migration of Large Cabbage White (Pieris brassicae) butterflies was at its peak today. Hordes of them were also seen on roadside purple floss flowers and fowering lantana shrubs. They return to Himalaya in N-W direction before the onset of hot summer season. These are signs of spring in Delhi / Noida area. I don’t think there is any fall in sparrows in Noida despite many mobile towers.
