I used to see lots of house sparrows near my home in Goregaon, Mumbai in the past. My building is surrounded by trees planted by us. But over the past few years, maybe even a decade or more, their numbers have definitely gone down. I have not seen a sparrow there for quite some time - the birds there are crows, pigeons and we see koels, parrots. Our ashoka trees house a colony of bats since my childhood.
Surprisingly, and thankfully, I have found that there are still lots of sparrows at my campus in Kharghar, Navi Mumbai. This is an area with lots of trees again. The sparrows here come into our canteen and peck at food scraps. Some of my colleagues deliberately leave scraps for them near the window. It is a delight to see them prosper here.

I had gone to Siliguri (where i saw the sparrow) for having a Doctor's check up. I saw five-six sparrow picking some food items from the ground. There were two species in the group one was House sparrow and the other Eurasian tree sparrow. There I showed my wife how to identify between these two.

I LUV SPARROWS ,ACTUALLY I START PUTTING FOOD AND WATER FOR THEM DAILY WHEN A FLOCK VISITED MY HOUSE .
NOW ,THEY ALWAYS START VISITING MY HOUSE IN MIDDLE OF MONSOON AND THEN IN WITH WINTERS THEY NUMBER GROW UPTO 25-30 THEY REST ALL DAY IN MY GARDEN IN MY BOGANVALIA COMING AND GOING chirping ALL DAY LONG. BUT I JUST DONT UNDERSTAND WITH SUMMER COMING THEIR FREQUENCY BECOME LESS N LESS THEN I SAW ONLY ONE OR TWO, THAT TO OCCASIONALLY .THOUG SOME TIME I SEE LARGE GROUP OF THEM ON OPEN PLOTS BUT THEY DONT COME FOR FOOD OR RARELY COME....BUT JUST NOT SPPAROW ALL BIRDS EVN CROWS .SO, IN SUMMER WE STOP PUTTING FOOD FOR THEM.. PLZ TELL ME WHERE DID THEY GO IN SUMMER..
