When I was young age of about 5-8 years, I would typically capture sparrows using a bamboo basket with a stick and thread to keep it open. Inside this I would put some rice to attract sparrows and pull the thread to trap the sparrow. After this I would put a color tag on the sparrow and let it go. Till the color would last, we would keep track of them as to who came and who did not etc. I did not know that after nearly 40 years I would be developing electronic tracking system for wildlife but most of the sparrows would have disappeared!

When I was a kid, I rescued a baby sparrow and I was happy to see him fly again... This made me a kind of attachment towards them. They come inside my house and I fed them frequently, and with the cellphone towers their population has gone down dramatically. 3 years back, I could hardly see them everyday. Once I found them 2-3 Kms away from my home where there was no much human population. There were about some 10s 20s of them. I know these little guys will extinct if we don't start at the earliest to respond to their aid... So I allowed all the thorny bushes to grow and I educated people nearby not to cut those bushy thorn trees, and soon I observed them coming back, and later I found them nesting. Now after 3 years I brought back my childhood once again... I could hear to their chirps once again...

There was many sparrow nests in our house and they lay eggs and then raise their new born. They elaborately make their nests and come for food when we eats.
Today's houses have no space for making their nests and ceiling fans are also killed them. At present in Baroda I unable to see any sparrow since long time...

I started keeping food grains and water in my balcony everyday with a hope to attract sparrows. Initially Pigeons frequented the place but over a period of time sparrows started coming in pairs.
These days there are multiple such couples coming to my balcony everyday. They seem to converse with me. I am planning to put up a home made bird house and hoping that the sparrows occupy it.
