We use to see and hear house sparrows during early dawn , a few years from now. Gradually the no of sparrows started declining. Now only very few (about 2/3 only) that to only occasionally are seen during morning hours.

When we were young they were part of our house. we used enjoy their presence. Now no more we see them. Our kids hardly know how to recognize them. My husband has written an article about his experiences with sparrows in Kannada and it got published in Deepavali special issue of Vijaya Karnataka, a local Kannada daily. I live in the area for last 20 years, about 15 years back we were forced to drive sparrows from out flats as they used to build nests on wall hangings , tub lights and all sort of places, as lots of Kachra used to gather, but they have disappeared, But rays of hope have again emerged , i have sighted few sparrows, but no nests

Even though the university campus has vast open spaces with tree cover, I never observed a single sparrow since 1979 till today. Also, this area does not have a single tower in its vicinity.
