A chai-shop at the reception area of Bandipur National Park shelters huge flocks of sparrows. I worked there for two weeks in January this year, and I saw them every day. They nest under the tiled roof of a shade next to the shop.

Flocks of sparrows chirped all day, sitting along the electricity cables running below our balcony. My mother and I spent afternoons observing them. Every year, a pair used to nest in our kitchen. The busy parents had hectic days bringing in hay and twigs to build the nest, eventually bugs and worms when the chicks fledged. After a hard day's work, they surely didn't want to be disturbed after dusk, which invariably forced Mother to cook dinner in candle-light. Exciting times they were! They stopped visiting us about five years ago, neither have I seen many sparrows in the locality lately.

The Sparrow has made a nest in the AC vent wall cavity of our flat, This is the third time in last six months they have laid eggs there.
1st time crow took away the chicks , second time one chick grew fully , this time there are two chicks in the nest at present

I work here and our watchman feeds bajra/jowar grains occassionally to the sparrows in the premises. So everyday while entering the building and leaving, I see a flock of sparrows feeding on these grains and sitting on the gate, the compound wall and the trees/shrubs around.

I used to see Sparrows whenever i visited this area, but now since i have shifted to this place after completing my masters, i have been seeing these birds regularily. This area has a river tributory called Tons in the backdrop and a patch of forest which increase the ecological richness of the place. Recently i have observed that the Sparrows are nesting and they are present in a fair number in this locality.
