I saw hundred's of House Sparrows chrripping in the market places and busily engaged in feeding activities.The nests were also observed near the shops and godowns.Some bird nesting in the street lamp and busily feeding the chicks.Really a memorable experience with sparrows those days.

Our new residential colony abutted lush green fields and lined with coconut trees, banana plantations, etc so the adjacent area was teeming with baya weavers- more than 100 nos. busy weaving bulb like nests on the palms of the coconut trees. House sparrows were then quite rare compared to the baya weavers. We had pigeons visiting our terrace and the fields for rice grains during harvest time.

Earlier there were jowar fields in this area. so many sparrows were seen here. About 250- 300 meters away is the river Pavana. The land near it is flat with many small bushes and trees. In the evenings though, one can still see flocks of sparrows flying by.
I've kept a bird feeder and water in my balcony. Sparrows come to feed Bajra everyday, throughout the day. Usually there are 4 sparrows. Two of which were seen 'picking' the cotton that i had tied with a clothespin for their nest.
On the southern side of my house, sparrows have build a nest in the pipes that go along the wall of my building...These sparrows are diffrent than the ones that come in the balcony.

Hello. Our building has a dense bougainvilla hedge and is an older structure. The sparrows love the hedge as they are completely protected there. They also love the nooks & crannies of the older structure ...sadly modern constructions lack this. Down the road 2 other buildings have these sort of overhanging bougainvillae & I would hear & see the sparrows as I walk by. Recently, one of them chopped off their entire hedge ...silence ! Building societies should plant more dense foliage so that sparrows & small birds get shelter from crows, kites & us !
