I have placed a sparrow nesting box outside my window about 3 years back, for the 1st year it was not used by sparrows & I though something was wrong, but since the last 2 years it has been regularly used & there is lot of activity outside the box at all times of the day.
Besides this 2- 3 sparrows are seen regularly outside our window.

I have moved to this apartment since June 2002 and am still living here. I have daily about 15 to 20 sparrows. when people say they are dwindling i find it hard to believe. I have a garden on my pvt terrace and i find the sparrows very destructive as the chew away all my plants. I keep them water through the year and they bathe in the water containers.

The sparrows seem to be living off fishing insects from the flowers sold in the market. They are not at all shy with so many people around. Happily jumping from one bunch of flowers to another.
Since the flower market is indoors, it should offer lots of protection from predators and the elements.

I along with my father used to put out seeds(kakone)every morning for the birds. Slowly the population increased but now (as of March-May 2012)the population has declined drastically. In front of our house there used to be a huge tree , which was chopped down. Since the tree was chopped the population of the sparrows also declined.There are telephone towers at Chintels House which is not far from our house, I think that the presence of the telephone towers is one of the reasons for the decline in the number of birds.

In the morning when I put some food like maize and rice on the walls for the birds, first one to arrive is always a pair of sparrows. I have counted upto 10 birds. My backyard is covered with green shrubs and they are well hidden in that. Unfortunately I have not seen any nests around my house. I am about to put wooden boxes as nest for these sparrow. I did this earlier also but it was occupied by other birds and there was lot of fighting.
