I had seen a few sparrow earlier very occasionally though. They have gone, perhaps as the city is growing and our area on the northern outskirts is now coming within the city.

Whole of Basavanagudi area around KrishanRao Park is devoid of Sparrows other than this particular place and I was very surprised to listen to the chirps and then when I saw them, I was moved to see these little birds which were integral part of my childhood.My mom says,without them being around, I would not have food and fall sick often during my childhood.

The area that i live is surrounded by small hillocks, a river and a lake nearby. Also, the area has very less huge trees and forests. Its majorly plain unfarmed dry land, on which i see hundreds of sparrowa brushing their feathers early in the morning.
I feed the sparrows everyday with rice and water, but have seen lately that there are few piegons that are a competiion for their food. However, as of now the piegons are few.
Other birds seen in large numbers in my area are crows, bulbuls, swallows (they have nests in the buildings) and jungle mynahs.
