Vasudha Joshi - Uday Baug Uday Bag, Uday Baug Pune Maharashtra

My mother has been commenting frequently on the absence of sparrows. About 3/4 years ago, they were frequent visitors to the water container kept on our kitchen window ledge. First we thought that bigger birds - crows and pigeons- kept them out. Then we blamed the mobile tower in the vicinity. Our maid insists that they regularly visit her courtyard where she keeps rice grains for them. So we were on the lookout for sparrows and were sad that they had disappeared so unceremoniously, just like that.
On her morning walk each day, from 6 to 7 a.m, my mother reported a happy chirping of sparrows at the spot I have indicated above. A railway overbridge has been constructed now and it starts from Uday Baug which has been partially converted into 2 residential complexes. But it has a chickoo grove, mango trees, drumstick trees and sparrows can be sighted there and also in the few bungalows, apartment buildings on the other side of the overbridge.

R.Rammohan - Residential, a few small scale industries, lots of trees around. Gandhi Bhavan, Kothrud Pune Maharashtra

The place I was staying at, has many trees within the complex and outside the houses. There are a few nearby hills with quite a lot of vegetation. There is an old jasvandi tree in the residence with lots of leaves. This tree provides a strong camouflage for at least a couple of nests of sparrows on it. Chirping of these birds is maximum during the early morning and late evening hours. This is a very welcome and pleasant music to the human ear which is bombarded with sounds such as from vehicles, industrial machines and airplanes. I would like to visit this place more often.

Kalpana Prasanna - Kendriya Vihar Apartments, Yelahanka Yelahanka Bangalore Karnataka

I have lived in this locality since 2005. The sparrows seems to have appeared only since 2011. They actually eat rice grains kept for them in the window sill (that is how I noticed them) However, they are few and far in number. They seem to be threatened by the presence of the larger feathered variety i.e. pigeons.

Nidhi - Kirti Elegant Society, Baner Mhalunge Road, Pune Baner Highway Side Rd Pune Maharashtra

I live in an area which is almost rural yet part of newly developing urban Pune. House sparrows are such a common sighting here. My husband and I wake up to their chirping and watch them sitting on the the window grill grooming themselves for the day. Its a delight!

prithu - Greenfields/andheri east Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Rd, Jogeshwari East Mumbai Maharashtra

every morning I get up with the chirping sound of a group of 4-5 pairs of sparrows hovering around our widow grill. I have kept a bird feeder, where they all feed. Recently I have seen two pairs of sparrows mating around the place. I did try keeping nestbox, but unfortunately no sparrow preferred it as their home but they do come everyday to inspect the place.
