Since 1959 Chandigarh being my birth, study and service place, I had been feeding and listing chip-ship of these lovely birds till 2009. Soon after the installation of Mobile Phone Towers these birds are no more visible, more over I feel that some other big birds are also a reason of their elimination. Now I mis them a lot. I used to getup early with their alarm in the wee hours. Now, I have observed not only in Chandigarh but alomost in Punjab like Jullunder & Ropar areas where I have been visiting since 2009 are without these lovely birds and heard people saying in Calcutta that these birds are no more now.

hi...i am reporting about a recent incident. It has taken place in kanathi colony, vadlapudi, vizag. Kurmannapalem Vishakhapatnam Andhra Pradesh
this is a very tragic story....I am staying at this place for couple of months now. there used to be a tree behind our house
where lots of sparrows and squirrels lived together. one day suddenly a selfish nighbour chopped the tree. there poor sparrows and squirrels let homeless. these poor things still visit there old home for shelter. As they cant find any other tree in this recently developed residential area. My heart is broken by seeing those poor little things homeless. i am unable to do anything except throwing some food grains to my new little pets.

I am staying in this locality since my birth. There used to be nests in our house and I have seen sparrows incubating eggs and even few seconds old young ones. As I am into gardening I used to find it irritating as they ate young seedlings and fresh bloomed flowers. At the same time it was quite fascinating watching them quarrel over a nut and rolling themselves on dry soil.
As our house was really old and asking for a renovation it was given to a promoter and now there stands a four storey building. In the mean while I did noticed a marked decrease in the number of sparrows and it was striking not to spot a single one of them. It really made me sorrow to think that just because of us some beautiful animals are disappearing from this planet.
Amazingly, but for the past 2 years the sparrow colony has again become visible and I have to use nets to protect my plants.
