I remember my childhood when my family was in Nawada district of Bihar between 1991-1995. That time there were to many nest of house sparrow in the first floor of my house. They were using grass as a nesting material and making nest in the ventilation (webed rosandan)at upper end of the wall. There was also a nest in my bedroom to whom I was usually observing by climbing the window. I remeber the small tunel shape nest of sparrow there. Some time I found nacked cheeks of these birds on the ground accidently fallen down to whom i always tried to replace it back to the nest. There were lots of house sparrow in my garden also they were always keep calling.

But now these birds are in danger. I hope and wish that there population recover as soon as posible to make our environment live.

I have started seeing the sparrows visit my balcony only in the last month. I have stayed here for 3 months now. I find them trying to find ways to build a nest and as yet they haven't managed. Planning to get a sparrow nest and keep it in one of my balconies. They do visit everyday for the water and grains we keep out for them.

Say frankly I have been seeing these birds since my childhood when I was in Dehradun. But few years back I saw a news item in the Times of India(some organization at Sion) I learnt that these birds are vanishing now. Then I came to know that the birds whom I have been seeing since my childhood is sparrow. Here in Mumbai I am staying at III floor. Whenever early morning I am coming to my balcony, I am seeing these birds there...numbered few. I called my wife and told her about these butiful birds. She also said that these birds she has been seeing since her childhood (in Delhi).

I'll like to share my experience with other sparrow lovers as well. I see sparrows chirpping on plants, electric wires, near water sources. And a strange thing to note, 1 sparrow used to come at my aunt's place to search for place for nest. She finally hanged a flower basket on one hanging. Now every day it comes in evening to nest and go back in morning. And another sparrow too made nest at another floor. Its we who have to help them in our developing society, where there are more houses and less trees. Help them providing safe place for nest, food, water and most important freedom.

Sparrows were in our house before we moved in. For over five years we had them living inside our house, in fact we could not operate ceiling fans in a room where they resided. They share our food, from the kitchen as well as where crops are winnowed or sunned. Usually they are the first to taste whatever is made. They become bolder while feeding chicks. Have had sparrows landing on our bodies( mine and wife's) and cherish the pics we could take of them. Contrary to common belief, they continue to take care of their chicks even if handled by humans. We had to pick up chicks who fell out of their nests and were happy to see them take wings. Probably the sparrows consider us part of their tribe
