I was on my way to my field area in the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve for one of my semester projects. In the town of Pipalkoti we were stuck because of a landslide a few kms ahead. A flock of c. 25 house sparrows flew from the road side bushes onto the roadside dirt and many of them put their abdomen on the dirt and started wiping dust with their wings! Though i don't know exactly what they were trying to do. It was a wonderful sight to see so many house sparrows together as I had not seen so many at a time for long. I have photographs of them as well. However, I used to see groups of 5-10 house sparrows occasionally in the FRI campus and in the villages behind the campus. Hope these information will be of help. i see the sparrow from my childhood , but as i become young. increasing in mobile tower reduces the birds, and now birds seen occasionaly.pls help it is our nature ,protect it.

Seen sparrows chirping .. but for the last few days i have seen one male and one female couple visits frequently our house and they stays at the balcony lights at night . i think like to stay at human houses too ...

The local shop keepers have a problem with the birds as they nest in the shutter / doors and they find it bad about dislodging the next in order to close the doors. So they have put up cardboard boxes to encourage the birds to next in them (the birds do the same)...there are people who regularly put out grains for the birds.

The area, which is 30 km far away from the place , where i live, we have received free bird feeders from " Project SOS Dave our Sparrows" about 40 containers, and we have hanged them up with some seeds. in this way we are trying to feed the Sparrows, where they normally don`t get seeds any more. and the concept is to increase the sparrow population.
