During the late 1990s, sparrows were frequent in the Market no.3 area of C.R.Park, South Delhi area. There were nesting sparrows in my house. Unfortunately there nest attracted cats and for some reason we had to wall up the crevice.
During the period say 2005-2010, I was alarmed to see a decline in the number of sparrows.House sparrows seemed to have abandoned South Delhi locality. I then visited Gurgaon, and was glad to see two sparrows in the field. I read up on BNHS activities and even Mrs. Sheila Dixit, Hon'ble CM of Delhi contributed in increasing awareness about the decline in number of sparrows and even celebrated a House Sparrow day.During 2011-12 however sparrow population seemed to have increased. I am now able to see a group of sparrows almost every three days.

No. I never saw any sparrow in this area..Although due to the presence of lush geen trees, i have seen many other kinds of birds but haven't seen sparrow here.
We usually see other horrifying animals and birds here which might be the reason of sparrow's abscence from this place..

I have tried unsuccessfully to invite sparrows to nest in my old wooden letterbox put up high on the balcony wall.But across 06 years ,it has been the common myna or the garden squirrel who have based themselves prim and proper in my box. whereas the few sparrows I get to see during winters nest on window ledges or similar wall niches, only to have their nest blown away by the summer breezes or thrown away by humans.But elsewhere in coastal karnataka (the mangalore - karwar highway), I had observed sparrows nesting gloriously in corragated boxes put on temple walls/pillars/corners. That was such a happy sight!In the same coastal karnataka region,in a hamlet called Dhareshwar, I have however noticed the sparrow population dwindling across the years( 2005- 2012) . Along with the sparrows the weaver birds too have been spotted lesser in numbers during the same years.

Well, we often talk about as to how much we miss seeing them. They are one of our childhood memories. I assume that its because of the telecom towers and network of wires, that they have just vanished from our locality

I have not seen too many sparrows here ... mostly see crows... sometimes some kingfishers..also have a few owls which hang around the house.
