In childhood, when we were staying at SantaCruz, Mumbai, Sparrows used to build nest in our house. and many sparrows flew across in the locality. I am talking about the scene, approximately 40 years ago. but now this is past. No sparrows are seen for long.

Being the student of Wildlife science i am well aware of the recent population drops in house sparrow, i hav noticed that populations have been reduced more in urban areas as compared to rural areas. I often see House sparrows in fair numbers at my home or village, but the number has certainly reduced from couple of years in my village too.

earlier there were sparrows at all times of the day and especially in the morning but now all i get to see are pigeons and crows with the occasional dove or parrot. if i walk outside the limit about 1 km from my home , then i can see sparrows nesting in the smaller trees and bushes but they are hugely reduced in number. can i put up feeding stations and what kind of food should i put in ? help please !

I had sparrow nest in my the loft of my house and the chirping used to go on all day long, even whilst cleaning the loft in the house, we never removed them or drove them away since its considered good karma in our religion to feed birds buts since last few years, I have not seen single sparrow even passing by then I figured it must be the mobile tower on my building and so many of them have recently sprung up even in the nearby buildings, hence when I read about Citizen sparrow in one of the local newspapers, here I am contributing in a way I can because I miss them, there were lot other birds like koyal, parrots also sometimes passing by but until recently its all pegions, crows and ravens around

I think government should provide nest for every house which had grown tree near their houses. Government also showing ad on TV, Radio rather than show tourism. we didn't want tourism we want to nature , birds etc..
