I guess I hear them daily nearby my place in Gurgaon, but in Ghaziabad, my hometown, they have suddenly disappeared and are hardly observed in households. They used to be a regular guest or atleast a visitor during my childhood days!

Couldn't remember when we had seen a sparrow in last 4-5 years. But few days back, we saw a sparrow on our house window (in Mumbai Mulund area). We thought to feed it and hence, put some bird-food in a box along with some water in an earthen pot. Since, then two sparrows (one male and another female) are frequently coming to on the window. It feels so happy to see those cute birds after a long time. Wish that these amazing birds should be saved before they get become extinct.

I still live in this queit locality for the last 5 years. I keep windows open for the sparrows to come inside too. They feed themsleves and are very non-intrusive, unlike pigeons. They chirp around the ledge where i keep the potted plants too-almost all day. In the evenings they are again hungry and come by the bedroom window facing the west. They do not mess up nor put up nests like pigeons. They eat after the crows, maynas and other birds have left the ledge. They do not get scared but all day they are flying around. I see between five to ten sparrows. At times when i go donw there may be around 15 or so flitting around. Gentle creatures and fun to watch.
