I have this habit of waking up early in the morning to do yoga and these sparrows will always be the first ones to wish me in the morning. I like keeping the doors and windows of my room open even though my maid complains about the birds spoiling my bed (you know what i mean). one thing i observed is that these birds come indoors only during the winters.its summer in kolkata already and i no longer see them visiting me :( . Im planning to buy a nestbox now , came across this site from an article in THE HINDU : http://www.shopping.natureforever.org/Products/Nature-Nestboxes/NF/Sparrow-and-Tit-Nestbox/pid-624184.aspx

We, as a family love birds and animals. We have been feeding sparrows daily for over 10 years. They begin their day by 6.30am and go on visiting us through the day till late in the evening. They enjoy dal-rice, upma, pohe, milk-rice, chapati, vermicilli upma, sev, sprouted matki usal etc. They start chirping whenever the food gets over. We have observed that many a times the male sparrows wait for the females to have the feeds first. We get at least 40 to 50 birds daily.
They often have their meetings, tiffs and fights on our window grill. They do not enter inside as a rule!

I also wondered why sparrows are never around. We started living in this area since 2002 but not a single sparrow was seen. I love birds and keep watching them with binoculars especially when I see a new bird. Many birds come near our place and even on the balcony of our flat since there are many trees at a distance of about 50-100 meters. Unfortunately sparrow was never seen.

It was a wonderful sight...there were hundreds of sparrows twittering on the tree just near the main entrance of the gurudwara in the parikrama area that goes along the sarovar....maybe because visitors give prasad to them to eat and there is plenty of water too....or are they devotees of the lord...?....go there to witness this yourself...the gurudwara is open for all religions, caste and creed...and birds too....amazing....heavenly experience....!!!!
