I have been living in Bangalore since 2004 in Bommanahalli, near Silk Board. I have never seen any sparrows frequent the area. It is a residential area with a lot of houses everywhere.
For the first time, I saw sparrows in Bangalore at the new International Airport at Devanahalli. They were found inside the airport, flying around frequently in search of food bits from the leftover plates at tables or on the floor. They were not many in number, hardly 3 or 4 that I could find at that time of my visit. They also did not look very healthy or look actually sparrow-like. Living inside the building, I figure their only source of food would be from the food courts and their tables. Their nests would be somewhere high in the ceiling rails or corners.
I was out of Bangalore for a brief period and returned back in October 2011. I started living in another area, Ayyappanagar, KR Puram, which is in between the city and outskirts. There are few open spaces, trees in the area and it depicts more or less like a rural landscape. I have never seen any sparrows around since I started living here.
My own residential layout has a lot of trees and is frequented by a lot of parrots, cuckoos, and many other birds throughout the day but never have I seen any sparrows.
The only place that I hope to find sparrows now would be inside the Bangalore airport. However, if the authorities decide to wipe them out considering them a nuisance, then the hope of seeing them there is also lost.
The only memories that I can recollect of sparrows are during my childhood when I did see them visit my surroundings and school frequently.

Vishal Nagar Vishal Nagar, Malad west Mumbai Maharashtra
I've been living here since 1977, when we had hundreds of sparrows nesting on trees around our building, flying into our balconies and bristling around with their sweet tweets. There has been a rapid decline over the last ten years, with the advent of pidgeons who I feel have driven away these sparrows from their nesting branches, as well as during the day.
Nowadays. seeing one is like sighting stars in the sky with the city lights on....a rarity.
This is also true for the area of Orlem, Malad west which had a very large population of sparrows, the trees are still there, but these birds have dwindled, sadly replaced by the pidgeons.

New Income Tax Layout Jyothi Nagar, Chandra Layout Extension II Stage Bangalore Karnataka
I Usually go for Morning Walk around my locality. There are around 15-20 Sparows i have seen and herd their voices. In one house there is one PVC pipe coming out. They have built nest in it. I can see this only that place not seen in other areas. There were thick bushes in empty sites i have not gone neary by but i feel they have built nests there also. Near by there is a Marriage Hall there also they have built nests. It is easy to get food by them in the marriage hall
